Results of the Second Regional Summer Scientific School for Young Space Physicists

On August 4-5, 2022, the Shafer Institute of Cosmophysical Research and Aeronomy, Siberian Branch< Russian Academy of Science (SHICRA SB RAS) hosted the Second Regional Summer Scientific School for Young Space Physicists, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of radiophysical observations at the Oybenköl test site.

This year, the number of participants in the School was 34 people, of which 18 were young scientists, specialists and university students, the number of full-time and online students of the School was 19.

The school expanded its status as a regional school: organizations from other regions of Russia were represented: St. Petersburg (2 participants), Ulan-Ude (2 participants), Irkutsk (2 participants), Tomsk (1 participant), Moscow (1 participant),  Paratunka of the Kamchatka Territory (1 participant). Twenty five people represented four organizations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

At the opening ceremony, the Director General of the FRC YSC SB RAS, Corr. Member , RAS, Lebedev Mikhail Petrovich and Director of SHICRA SB RAS Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Sergei Anatolyevich Starodubtsev delivered greeting speeches, as well as the greeting speech was given  by RAS Advisor, RAS Academician Germogen Filippovich Krymsky.

Professor, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Chief Researcher of the Institute for Monitoring Climatic and Ecological Systems, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (Tomsk) Petr Mikhailovich Nagorsky visited the school with a lecture “Unintentional Disturbances of the Ionosphere”.

The lecture by Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory at the Institute of Physical Materials Science, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (Ulan-Ude) Yury Buddich Bashkuev “Surface Electromagnetic Waves on the Layered Medium “Ice-Sea” in the Arctic Ocean” was listened to as online video report. Also, the School was attended by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Chief Researcher of the Institute of Physics of the Earth. O.Yu. Schmidt of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow) Natalya Georgievna Kleimenova with an online report “A New Type of Daytime High-frequency VLF Radiation in Auroral Latitudes”.

Lectures reflected the full range of topics announced by the School.

As part of the lectures at the School, review papers were presented on topical areas in solar-terrestrial physics, atmospheric physics, magnetosphere and ionosphere physics, cosmic ray astrophysics, modern methods of radiophysics, experimental instruments and techniques, and applied problems.

During 2 days of work, 7 face-to-face and 5 online lectures, 18 youth reports were listened to and discussed, 2 of them were video-conference reports and 7 were in the form of poster reports.

The second day of the School was held at the Oybenkel radiophysical training ground, which is located 25 km south of Yakutsk. Here, young scientists got acquainted with the work of the test site in practice, went on an excursion, listened to lectures and made oral and poster presentations.

At the end of the conference, the organizing committee pleased the participants of the School with an anniversary cake.

We hope that the Summer School for Young Space Physicists will become an annual event, it was decided to hold the  Third Summer School for Young Space Physicists at SHICRA SB RAS in July-August 2023.
